thedarksiren2"If you really want something, it will be yours," said the man to the child as she swung on her swing.
In a forward motion, hair trailing behind her, she asked, "Really?" She floated backwards and continued. "But what if it isn't mine?"
"Then you must learn to share," he explained as he leaned on the pole of the old swingset, ignoring the red rust that stained his white shirt.
The girl wrinkled her face, her lips forward in consideration. She pushed her feet on the ground to gain momentum and asked, "But what if I don't want to share? What if I want it all for myself? What if I want everything?"
The man smiled, and glanced down to see a dancing leaf just below him amongst the woodchips. He looked up at her kindly, eyebrows raised in humored concern, and walked behind her as if to give her a push. The girl smiled with all her teeth, giggled a hushed laugh; she thought she had him.
The man wrapped his left arm around her waste abruptly, held the girl midair and left a soreness in her gut as he whispered into her ear, "Then you shall have nothing at all."
