One of the things I need to get before going to Italy is a reeeally good make-up/ concealer to cover up my ink.
Yup, I gotta do what every self-righteous freak dreads...cover up those emblems which represent aspects of my self, my being, my my my...
Oh. sorry.

Anyway, a good portion of my tattoos are black-work, so...can anyone give me any ideas as to what might work best for this, and where I might obtain the magic make-up? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Date: 2003-06-10 09:05 am (UTC)We have been having an unbelieveable heatwave here, and no break is in sight. Here in Switzerland, we should be averaging temps in the high 60's and low to mid 70's right now. We're in the upper 80's to the mid 90's basically every day. Rome is going to be even hotter - and no a/c in most places.

Date: 2003-06-15 03:21 pm (UTC)Did I give you our new address and phone number?
Did Jesper fill you in on the railpass stuff? (You must buy it over there, you can't buy them here).
Yay, you leave in a short time - and with luck, we'll be hanging out next month!!!!!!!

Date: 2003-06-10 09:15 am (UTC)I would suggest a base powder and general concealer. Just my thoughts.:)

Dermablend
Catch? (and you know there is one) It's pricey...about $20. You can find it at any Kaufmann's, Dillard's, Nordstrom, etc. cosmetic counters.

Date: 2003-06-15 03:21 pm (UTC)I had also heard of the price, but it is a necessary evil at this point, so no biggie.
Thank you!!!!

Date: 2003-06-15 03:23 pm (UTC)Also, I am in need of it simply to cover-up my tattoos, not for the rest of me. Black ink is hard to hide under regular make-up.
maaaaaaaaaaaake up!
Date: 2003-06-10 08:16 pm (UTC)Ben Nye makes a really nice tattoo coverup (about $10 for the palatte) greasepaint with a palatte of different tints, it's most likely available at Mr. Fun's on Ridge near Biddulph or John's Fun House on E 185th... Use a rubber sponge (latex foam wedge, or even better, a specialty red rubber sponge) to apply the grease in layers. Depending on how dark your ink is, you may want to lay down a neutralizing color first (a yellow tint over blueish or purpleish ink, or even a white to offset the blackwork). Set each layer with a translucent powder (regular cosmetic powder works fine) and finish with a flesh tone foundation to match. Most of the staff at Mr. Fun's is pretty well educated, they may able to point you towards the right product.
If you're not looking for "super-up-close whaddya mean I didn't know you had a tattoo" quality coverup, just something that will pass comfortably at a distance, pick up a compact of Mehron Starblend pancake makeup (about $8). I know they carry this color at Starship Earth on Lorain, near Commons. Use a natural sponge (sea sponge, about $1) moistened with water or castor oil (for extra coverage). Your complexion is pretty close to mine, you could prolly use the Soft Peach I do... or the Extra Fair if you need to go paler...
Your skin may vary, some complexions just don't take to certain types of makeup. If you're really desperate, you can make something called Pax Paint... take regular craft acrylic paints from Pat Catan's and mix them to match your skin tone... then add an equal (or close to equal) amount of Prosthetic Adhesive (about $9 available at the costume stores mentioned above)... this is a mixture used for cover-up on a lot of filmshoots because of its durability... it will definately stick and definately cover-up, but it's harsh, and you will probably break out afterward. Make sure to pick up Bond Off (about $7) remover if you go with this option, otherwise you will suffer the indignity of prolonged stickiness and pain as you try to peel the stuff out of the little silky-fine body hairs on your arms, etc.
Hope this helps!!!!!

Date: 2003-06-11 05:43 am (UTC)That's two links that for other options. The dermablend was recommended on a few sites as well. I think the first link is one of the best options, as you tend to be a bit on the pale side (like myself) and there is SPF in the stuff and lots of blending options. I personally haven't used any, as my ink is easily covered with clothing. If you don't have the $$$ to toss out for these things, let me know and I will experiment with some of the regular cheap makeup I have here and let you know if it covers up my orange and black! Regardless, have a great time on your trip.

Date: 2003-06-15 03:30 pm (UTC)I think I am going to go to Mr. Big Fun's, as per Zelda's suggestion. It was thought anyway. The tattoo-cover kit you linked to is nice, but very expensive considering I may never use it again.
And thank you for the well-wishes!
