OK, so I don't generally repost something that someone on my friends list posts, but [livejournal.com profile] annabelevil posted this article about how Munch's "The Scream" was stolen in broad daylight from Oslow. Sad and weird, considering how it is so popular...even the "authorities" said it probably won't be sold, not even on the black market, because of its notoriety.

Then, upon looking at the other comments to this posting of hers, I found a different link...

No, not on the black market.
How about, instead, in broad e-light???!!!!

Thatz right...unless it's a damn good hoax, which I am not beyond believing...

That's right...Ebay.

Maybe it's just me, but umm, can we say...DOI??!!!

What is this world coming to when great thieves can't even get money in a brilliant manner?

*sigh*

So disappointing...

please let me know if anyone sees/ hears about them getting caught. This ought to be a riot.

I just don't buy it, I think someone is trying to cash in on the robbery by selling a fake and making it seem like its the stolen one. It has nothing to do with the stupidy of criminals but the police and art people who be on that like flys to shit, and the auction would already be shut down if it was the real painting.

May be just a hoax, but in all honesty, it wouldn't suprise me if someone did go through with this.

Maybe I'm just jaded...~;D LOL

My opinion is that it is just a joke. (Kind of a funny one, at that.) e-Bay is becoming fertile ground for humorous prank 'auctions.'

It wouldn't be the first time someone made a joke auction out of a reported theft from the news, either.

perhaps, perhaps...

still, wouldn't surprise me in the least if the thieves did just this.

Never underestimate human stupidity, eh?

OK, I'm down with that.

joke or not, I reported that sale as soon as I saw it.

thing is.. what if it is real, and then it never gets recovered. that would be sad.

agreed, even though I didn't report it myself.

But again, I don't underestimate the fact that they will get caught, hoax or not.

I appreciate your doing this, however.

I just didn't want to wonder. I was like, I'm sure someone reported it. but then, well what if everyone thought the same thing? and if it's a hoax, bad taste imho. I guess I'm just a bitch sometimes :D

Nah, not a bitch.
Just a concerned art-lover, who was looking out for the interest of the piece. No harm in that!

I thought about it, but then figured they'd get caught, one way or another anyway. Too stupid not to, imo.

I just can't believe how many people have bid on the silly thing already. So, not only are these "thieves" stupid, but the buyers are as big nimrods, if not moreso! I mean, let's just say it is the real thing...umm, hellooo??? You will be traced via Ebay! DUH!!!

*laughs*

Yay for the stupid-heads!

ha i think its great! i wish my art was worth stealing.
i don't think stupid is the right word for the thieves, after all, they did get away with it. stupid would be right word for the security guards and everyone else for that matter because we got duped and this is just funny. all this for the sake of art. there should always be this much controversy. i wonder who the thieves were... it would be grand if it was just a couple of unknown artists doing this as a conceptual preformance piece to make a statement about art. i wish...

Oh, I wasn't saying their actual stealing the piece was stupid...I think it's great that they did it the way that they did...brazen and full of spunk! HOwever, the idea that they would be be dumb enough to sell it on Ebay is a bit disheartening, with consideration of the initially lovely theft itself.

You should go read this post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/orangeale/123011.html?view=547459#t547459) that my friend, [livejournal.com profile] orangeale made about it. I LOVE the visual she gave about it. I can totally see what she's talking about, although I think the Mona Lisa would be more masochistic about it:

Mona Lisa, whilst smirking: "Oh yeah, you know you want me. That's right, TAKE ME! EVERYONE wants me...heh heh!"

Oh yeah, I need to get a life.
LOL

ABC "Nightline" had a whole segment about art thievery(sp?), and it said no one has been caught, and the painting has not been recovered. So, your suspecions were correct. It was a fake eBay. Stupid people. I would not risk getting my account suspended over that.

[livejournal.com profile] ciani reported the sale (http://www.livejournal.com/users/thedarksiren/518219.html?thread=2183243#t2183243) to the Ebay staff, so the fact that it's now off-auction is not even a little surprising.

It is funny, regardless.

it would be interesting to know if ciani was the only one to report it, i doubt it, but you never know. like ciani said, people tend to think, well, someone will report it and no one does.
