it's 5:16 AM, but it feels like 2:16 AM
Jul. 8th, 2004 05:16 amso I'm kinda tired.

Well, much to my, as well as my comrades', dismay, Champps postponed the finals until the 28th. This was both good and bad.
Firstly, I shouldn't really be hobbling about on my foot. It looks like someone took a bat to it, and frankly, it kinda feels like it anymore. I am being about as good as I can be to it, resting, keeping it elevated, ice, ibuprofen, etc. The thing is, I am reconsidering my initial notion of it being a mere sprain. I think I may have fractured something on the inner-portion of my ankle, and really I can't do a damn thing about it but keep on wrapping it in ace bandages and doing everything else I mentioned above. This, my friends, is a tad disconcerting, but my reality no less.
Keeping all of the above in mind, I decided to risk wearing my boots instead of my sandals tonight because they looked better with my outfit. Gotta look spiffy, ya know? Besides, I'm not the first, nor shall I be the last, to *suffer for beauty*
so yeah, they were initially really comfy, super-secure, and they hid the dreadful ace bandage. After walking around for a while though, it began to hurt. Lots.
The second part of the bad was simply that they didn't have any of the songs I had practiced for the contest. I asked them to order them (they won't let you bring in your own discs - WTFE) and the guy proceeded to show me the new song list that wasn't in the books yet.
This is where the good chimes in...~8)
They now have an Evanescence song, albeit not one I particularly care for, but I can sing some Evanescence, yup yup. They also had a few other new tunes that I can practice until the 28th, which rocks. I spent the next ten-fifteen minutes writing down possibilities, noting what songs they actually had (did I mention their list SUCKS COOOOOCK!!!???) and then finished my White Russian happily.
The best part of all this was having the support of friends, even though I didn't wind up singing tonight at all. Thank you
wraptboy,
bindrune and
nomadoh for coming out with me and sitting through yet another torturous night of bad singers. It really means something to have you all there with me.~8)
Oh, but there was this one old lady, Sara I think was her name. She had to be about 65212431438627345826 years old, all hunched-over and crotchity! She made her way up to the stage and began speaking in Swahili (ie - no one could really understand her) all while the video prompter was zooming her lyrics right by her. She really was doing it "her way." LOL She was HILARIOUS, had this strange little chortle she did every so often and just sang the song as she felt like singing it, not really paying any attention to when lyrics came up and/ or were due in the song. I LOVED her! Oh, and the crowd roared when she was done, too!
We left just as some guy got up to sing, "Who's Your Daddy?" a fucking awful (s)karaoke song I have heard far too many times to be OK with it. Our waiter was a bit of a cocksmuggler too, so he got shite for a tip. Something about us being inferior to a table of seven or something...yeah, well your loss, fucknugget.~>8P
heh, I'm really in a great mood. Sorry about the rant.
~8)
So yeah...a few weeks from now I'll be singing there, and I am supposed to get an invitation/ reminder thinger in the mail to be certain, so that's cool. I'll let y'all know, just in case.
Came home and watched Cold Mountain all the way through finally. I really, really love this film. It's sappy at points, but damn if Renee Zelwigger's (sp?) character doesn't blow them to smithereens! I loved her! Lots of good actors too, even the lead singer of The White Stripes was in it (props to
bindrune for figuring that one out!~8) Not too shabby, I must say!
Talked with Gabe a bit on the tele. He saw an amazing sunset tonight, said he wished it was the one I'd seen with him. I told him the one I saw was perfect...yeah yeah, gush and all that ~;P He found a gecko in his toolbox, hiding beneath some markers and pencils, saw a very large cockroach-beetle, asked me if I was coming back tomorrow...
I would if I could.

He makes things silly, even when they really shouldn't be. I think that's one of the reasons I like him so much. He doesn't avoid subjects so much as he approaches them differently, with humor and shyness. He always makes me laugh though, always, every night we talk. It almost feels like he aims for it, and then he tells me goodnight. Of course, tonight it was after he told me he reeked from his bike ride, had a (new) hole in his leg and had put the earring I'd left at his house (it fell out of my ear somehow) through his own holes, just to see if they still existed.
Also, he wants to know the distance from Portland to San Francisco, so that when I am moved over there, he, as my groupie #1, will know how long he'll have to travel to stalk me. *laughs*
Man, I just cannot even think that far ahead right now. Hell, even thinking about a week from now hurts my brain. Too much too fast, info overload and reality is sinking in very quickly. I need to get boxes from Teri, start packing my things. I need to figure out what's going and what's staying, hell...where am I even going to live???
Phone calls will be made today, after sleep.
yup yup.
Of course, I'm wired now.
Go figure.
~;P
The night ended with me playing Atari Circus and Missile Command while
wraptboy and
bindrune crashed.
And now...
Hope everyone's having pleasant dreams.

Date: 2004-07-09 01:15 pm (UTC)The MC droids said they'd like me to come up. It'll kinda depend on whether or not it's a weekend, if I have the money/ gas to get up here, etc. I told them if they could help me with gas money, that'd be rad. I won't be working down in Athens, other than possibly work-study, so it's going to be tight for a while.
I hope you can make it! It'd be awesome to have you there!

Date: 2004-07-08 08:40 am (UTC)You did look great last night but I could tell that your foot was bothering you. Get the word out for the 28th...you've def got the voice...you've got the stage presence...your song selection is always great...but let's see how big of a crowd we can muster up to support you for that "audience participation" part of judging!
(turn it into a Dawn concert!! hehe)
Take care...

Date: 2004-07-09 01:34 am (UTC)bite the bullet and go to the hospital for your ankle, if something is broken and you don't take care of it, it will never heal right.
metro will take you without insurance and so will farview. plead poverty they have financial aid and you might get it done for free if not, pay them a little bit at at time and they'll be happy.
oh and by the way, i'm gonna miss you a lot and i will come to see you on the 28th
also, if you have a song you really want to sing at champps, check out the sgb (sweet georgia brown) line of karaoke discs, the kandy store has them for $5. angel is on one of them.
my point is if you buy it and give it to the guy who is updating the list there and let them keep it if they add it to their list, he may go along with it and it would be worth the $5 and if he says no well, then you have it for your collection

Date: 2004-07-09 01:20 pm (UTC)As for pleading poverty, they base their charges and all that on the pervious year's salary, and as of right now, I made too much last year to qualify for most of those sorts of things. This is partly the reason I haven't been working too...I'd like to get some grants for school next year, so the less I make this year, the better. Kinda shady, but I think I have earned my way for a long time and deserve a break now.
As for Champps, I have it all covered, but thanks for the ideas!
