A *friend* of mine on My Space posted the following on the bulletin board today, and I thought some people might be interested in it. Hopefully most of the people I know will be, but for those of you who'd rather ignore the crap going on in the world, I will cut it.

So many people feel hopeless when it comes to politics. So many people feel their vote isn't worth a damn. So many people feel the pervasive apathy that dominates our society.

However, there's a funny thing about "so many people." So many people, who share the same opinions, have incredible power at their fingertips. They just need to act on it.

On January 28th of this year, I started the Get Rid of Bush profile in order to spread the word about the atrocities being committed by our executive branch. It is now April 8th. There are now 3,600 people here. So many people...

Think of the reasons you added me as your myspace friend: the war in Iraq; women's rights; the gay marriage ban; freedom of speech; the environment; you liked the picture of Bush with a line through his head, etc.

Point is, you're here because you're pissed off. You're pissed off at a government that's not looking out for you. You're pissed off at a government that's lying to you. And you're pissed off because you feel helpless to fight it.

Well, if there's one thing I know about liberals, it's that they're much more willing than conservatives to admit when they're wrong. And let me tell you all, when it comes to feeling hopeless, you ARE wrong. Admit it. And do something about it.

As I said, we now have 3,600 people here. That's a pretty strong voice for an online contingent. Now, imagine if all of you got 10 people you know to register to vote. That's 36,000 new voters. Divide by 50 and you have 720 new voters per state. The 2000 election was decided (supposedly) by 537 votes. You can make a difference.

Last month, my old friend and college roommate told me, "There's no way I'm ever gonna register to vote. You should just give up now." Today, he registered. As he put it, "new facts have now come to light." If this guy, whom I never on earth thought would register, could decide to do so after learning about what's going on, then anyone can.

In fact, studies have shown there are more liberals in this country than conservatives. Sure doesn't seem that way, but it's true -- the conservatives just do a better job of yelling. Well I, for one, am tired of taking their close-minded, neo-conservative thinking and don't feel like dealing with it for another four years.

If you are too, then go and pester your friends. Pester them like I pester you with these bulletins. Get them to vote. Stop feeling helpless and start doing something about it.

In order to help you in your quest, I've provided some ammunition below.

Regime change starts today.

Of course I will be out there voting for the regime change, but let's all face it, it truely is hopeless. Bush will return, because this is exactly the kind of shit lives most Americans want to have. I've been saying it for over a year now, and I'll say it again. Bush will win in a landslide.

I'm saddened to agree that Bush will remain in power, and he doesn't even need a landslide to do it. Hell, he doesn't even need a reasonable, proven majority of the popular vote to do it. I keep finding myself reminding people that he didn't actually win last time, either.

It's not that I don't want the media to continue to work towards exposing his bullshit, but all my friends who keep saying, "Oh he's really screwed now, there's no way he can win the election after this," whenever some new lie or right-slashing agenda is brought into the light of day, just make me frustrated. With this much dishonesty in the administration, where's the hope that logic will prevail and clean things up? Not here.

I do fully support the idea, however, that if you waive your right to vote, you waive most of your right to complain about the way you're represented politically. I say "most" because even the most apathetic non-participants in the last round of elections has the right to be disgusted with the Bush administration's evil. Extreme times, extreme measures and all.

It's kinda funny that you and DV8 both said these things. I was really saddened by your responses at first, which is why I haven't responded to them until now. Nevermind the emotional rollercoaster ride called my life...heh. WEEEEEEE!!!

Anyway, I guess I consider you both believers in energy patterns. Maybe it is presumptuous to think this way, but I just always got that from you. Besides, I cannot deny what I have witnessed over the past several years; if you want something badly enough, and put forth the energy and faith in that something, it can happen.

In my opinion, this goes far above and beyond the powers of the administration. I think that people are angry and tired enough to put forth the energy and bring some light into these dark times.

I guess I just meant to give people hope when everyone seems to be so hopeless. You and DV8 both encouraged this hopelessness with your responses rather than empowering people. And really, that's how things are done. Did you not accomplish more when you believed in it? Wasn't it easier when you believed in yourself as well? And when others encouraged you, empowered you, wasn't is all the more easy?

May sound flighty, but hell, my life is one flight after the other. ~8P I guess I just want people to have hope, to keep up the faith because that small amount of energy in support of change will eventually build into a spiral and, should it continue to grow, overcoming obstacles, be they Bush or otherwise.

Think The Neverending Story...only we all have a grain of sand to wish upon.

/end cheesy rant.

I guess I have hope where other people do not. I mean, granted, the right wings have been loud and have cast a very large shadow over our country for a long time. I think the difference is that now people on both sides are pissed off at Bush and his administration.

I don't particularly like Kerry, to tell you the truth, but I have faith in the idea that we can get Bush out of office, even if it is to someone I consider, sadly, the lesser of two evils.

I am glad you're voting though.~8) A little is a lot when it's in the right spot.~;)

Oh, I'm voting. And I'm trying to encourage friends to do the same, with varying levels of success.

I just wish I thought better of Kerry. I hate voting for the "lesser of evils", or voting against someone. I'd much rather find a candidate who I could wholeheartendly vote for . But getting Bush out is a good enough goal for me this time around.

(btw, before you make follow up posts about how few responses you got, give people a few days to actually see your post, silly.) :p

actually, that post wasn't so much about how I wanted more comments as it was a response to the negativity of the comments I received. It just bums me out that people aren't willing to make an effort.

I agree with you though...Kerry isn't much better, but it's a change. Anything to get Bush out...the world is a very scary place right now. We'll make it better though.~8)
