Call me an asshole for not checking. I don't know...does everyone keep track of everyone on their friends lists all the time? I mean, seriously?

I feel horrible right now. It's a stupid horrible, but it's there. This day has gone so well up until now. Now I am falling fast into a sadness that reminisces of people long gone.

I just found out tonight via [livejournal.com profile] wraptboy, who read about it on [livejournal.com profile] draganfly's LJ...

[livejournal.com profile] johnthecamera passed away in December. He apparently had stomach cancer, and it was worse than anyone thought it was. Or rather, he told everyone he was fine.

I wondered where he'd been. He was always a highlight to my LJ. He was so talented as a photographer, simply wonderful eye for the world.

He was a nice guy too. We didn't talk many times, but we exchanged a few correspondences, including my asking him if I could use one of his tree pics as a user icon here on LJ. He was delighted and flattered, said I could, and thanked me for asking permission.

This is the icon you see now.

He sent me a Christmas card that year, one with a beautiful tree he'd photographed on it. I was one of 600+ people on his friends list, yet he thought about the content of the card, knew I liked trees. I thanked him then, and he said he was happy to know he brought me joy during the holidays.

I noticed he had disappeared, especially around the holidays when he was more likely to post more pics. Oh, and he loved to capture the sunset from his window in England...the last picture he posted was of a sunset just after Halloween.

Rest in peace, John.
Thank you for sharing your eyes with us.
And for the trees...~8)

i am sorry to hear this. he and i were never on each other's lists but i often saw and enjoyed his work on [livejournal.com profile] futurecity. i like architectural photography and once asked him to put up a picture he had mentioned of the Lloyds of London bldg., one of the most unusual office buildings I've ever seen/been in. he put up a lovely shot for me, that I downloaded and probably still have saved on my old PC hard drive. RIP john.

Don't know anything about the guy. But with all due respect, your icon is now a custom-designed work of art by a dead artist. It should be a collector's item now.

Should anything happen to me, I give you permission to consider anything I write to you as in the same class and sell it for as much as you can get.

It's a shame that people have to lie and say that they aren't dying. I guess they don't want people making a fuss over them in their last days. Really, as cruel as it can be, it is also noble in a way.

last month I was browsing a random group on lj. I came across an obit of someone. then I looked at the name again. This was a guy I knew! someone that I had talked with in July. he had invited me up to his summer place in NH. I thought I would see him in January. I dismissed not seeing him as just two ships in the night. no. he had passed in December. I felt badly about not keeping up with him. I understand the shock. my heart is with you.

I had also been wondering where he was. I figured he just went away from LJ, as sometimes people do.

I loved his photos.....and he was a genuine and very nice guy. He encouraged me a lot with my photos, there was a point when his words kept me shooting even when I hated when I produced.

Very, very sad :(

aw dawn, that is sad, I am sorry he is gone...though I did not know him. It is still sad. I am not trying to replace him, but you said you like tree pictures and I have some that I took, and so I put them up (here) for you. ;-) I hope you like em!

well, I didn't know him *personally*, but like I said, we had a few interactions, and he really was just a splendid person to write to and read about.

Thank you for the tree pics. They're wonderful, and made my day! Hey, those pics of your backyard, are those from when that plant exploded a while back (or whatever happened...I don't remember what it was, but I know something burned for a really long time and made the sky insane for about 12 hours)? Those are incredible pictures...you should so do something with them!

Thanks again!

No those pics that are all red are from one day last year when the sky was crazy red for no reason, so i took some pictures of it. :-) It happens once in awhile, i think it's pollution or something. heh.
Your welcome! you can use em for whatever! ;-)
