having one of the most profoundly vivid and amazing dreams ever and not having the time to write about it. grr.

I so hope I remember this later! Damn the snooze button! damn it to hayel!

btw...the Church of Christ owns southern Ohio. I shit you not.

scareh.
My brother would be like, "REPRAZENT!"
'cept, well, I don't think the church would like that word very much.
Yeah, he'd definitely go to hayel for that one.

*giggle* that struck the funny bone in me for some reason and I dissolved into a fit of laughter.....and once I get started I have problems stopping, and the weird looks that I got from my fit of laughter only made me laugh harder.....I'm still having residual giggles...help me please..I think I'm in an odd little mood..

I think that I will be most lucky when I have a child instead of an alarm clock to wake to each day.

I don't mean to be snotty but...where does this come from? Or do you just mean figuratively.?.
I'm familure with UCC, is CC so much different?
From: [identity profile] wraptboy.livejournal.com
Church of Christ is very, very different from UCC. Different history, different values.
From: [identity profile] wraptboy.livejournal.com
United Church of Christ is open and affirming. Has gay clergy, accepts diverse views of theology and has a very strong communtiy slant...almost social workish. Archwood is UCC

Church of Christ, in my experience is more closed...almost, but not quite cultish in their seperateness and devotion/fanatacism. They don't seem to like outsiders unless they are seriously considering coming into the fold.

Church of Jesus Christ and Laterday(sp?) Saints is something else altogher. (remember the TV commercials?) Don't know as much about them, but they are different than the other two.

These are just conclusions from my experiences, I'm not claiming to be an authority or anything. I've known people to get sucked into Church of Christ and seem to disappear, completely disown their former life. Wheras with the other two I've known people that participate and or practice those forms of protestantism.

I knew about CoC and CoC&LDS, but thanks overall!~8)

it comes from all but losing a sibling to a religious group that has been around roughly twenty-thirty something years because I am not a part of their church. Mind you, all of my family is going to hell according to his church.

Also, it is on America Undercover's Top Ten Occult List.

I saw many buildings and signs referring to The Church of Christ. I do not know of this other group you speak of, and no, COC has nothing to do with the Latter-Day Saints people. It's just a screw-headed, brainwashing religion that has eaten my brother's once amazingly free and silly soul.

Oh, and I wouldn't have taken it as snotty...I am always up to discuss religion with people, so long as I get to speak my thoughts as much as I listen to theirs. No worries!~8)

My condolances on the 'loss' of your brother...

There is always the chance that he'll grow out of it. Let's hope that he regains his sence of humour when he does.

The other group is United Church of Christ. They're everywhere too but much less scary about it.

well, he's calmed down a bit, enough to finally talk to me on the phone after eight years of silence. I think his wife has mellowed him out some on the whole deal, but the CoC is so strict about not contacting other non-Church-of-Christ people...

thank you though.

I've lived in Southern Ohio, and... yeah... the CoC is all over it. But Ohio, in general, is crazy-Christian-bigot-land anyway. I'm so glad I'm on the East Coast now.

See, I don't mind Christianity as a whole. No, I am not Christian, nor am I any denomination except for maybe Dawndom *smirks*, but the CoC is just overbearing to a tee.

What part of the east coast are you on? I lived in VA for eight years...they have Mormons though.

Doesn't matter where you are in my opinion. Discrimination lives wherever people do. And I don't mean to sound fatalistic with that comment, just super realistic.
