When Mercury lost his groove...
May. 21st, 2003 04:30 amall went right with the world.
not necessarily correct, mind you
that is subjective, and to be left for another time.
when i was a kid
i would sit beneath the giant oak tree in our front yard
collecting ants for my ant-farm.
i remember their trails, and how fascinated i was
watching them for hours.
the day would end with them near the bottom of the "farm"
and my hands smelled like battery acid.
acorns were important.
very. important.
i would collect them like golden treasure
they were the best of good-luck charms
sometimes equal to currency
except for when marbles were involved
the only protection i had
to guard my acorns
were the aquamarine-colored fish
from the bushes in the backyard
and the rotten oranges
that always made the air a little sweeter
than what i imagine it should have been.
these were the best arsenal a six or seven year old had at her disposal
aside from boulders, anyway.
If I had an acorn tonight
I would have given it to
kajmal
as a good luck charm
sans battery-acid fingertips
lethal fishies
and over-ripened Valencia
for his long ride home.
Safe travels, my friend.
