I found it.

It was stealthy, you see. Hiding under snowflakes, tickling my car's tires, causing us to fishtail. I came back with colors though - one thing I have never been worried about is my ability to handle a vehicle.

The world was closed by 10PM. All except for that one place, the one I dread most - Super K.

The lot was all but full when i pulled in. I just laughed, parked in the side lot by the old automotive area, and found a cart to tow in with me.

I had 45 minutes to get the rest of my Christmas needs before they closed. They were pie ingredients, as my mom had asked me to bring some pies down tomorrow (today???)

To my surprise, people were really mellow. It was this resignation, and that whole "WTF am I doing here - it's Christmas eve!!!"

The most major noise came from a woman who caught another woman snatching her purse from her cart. It was like a Jerry Springer episode, only real.

The cashier sighed - I reassured her she only had a few more minutes to go. She smiled, and i told her Merry Christmas as I left. She said, "You too - thank you!"

There was another smallish spat between two drunk women at the entrance - more Jerry Springer action. I think I may have to go to London for that opera when it comes out.

The snowflakes caught my lashes, and I blinked, and felt the cold on my cheeks like kisses...I likes kisses.

I kissed them back, and skipped through the snow to my Fairuza.

I found an old mixed tape someone from Kent made me - a Pogues compilation from Mr. Jim Dobric. Just a great guy to know, really. We used to sing Pogues cover songs at Brady's; he gave me new appreciation for Tom Waits, introduced me to Leonard Cohen and Dali, and got me hooked on the Pogues back then.

I cannot recall how long it's been since I have seen him. Last one I recall was a Lilith Fair show at Blossom. He always gave good hugs, and his voice was so low and gravel-like - I loved listening to him play his guitar and sing with that bass like a quiet earthquake.

So, tonight, aside from the decorating of the Jawndomay tree, wrapping gifts, creating them, and looking out in awe of the massive amounts of snow outside (it's so bad out there, I have no choice but to find joy in it! Snowangels, anyone?) Jim Dobric is my happy thought, and if it weren't for his tape, I might have forgotten a song we were supposed to sing together.

A toast, to Jim Dobric...*clink!* )
