How does it hold the pen?
Does that make it a song from the heart?

Date: 2003-01-08 04:53 am (UTC)Although I think you'll need more than good recording equipment to make anything sung by that trollop sound better than the wailings of a castrated otter.
Not that she annoys me or anything, you understand :)
Very cool news anyway :)

See, it's a contest to write lyrics and a melody line for her. There's music already written by some guy, and you have to download it and then record your version and send it back as an MP3. I have nothing to do any of this with, but luckily I am a resourceful Dawn. ~8)
besides, if all else fails, maybe they will hear my siren-voice and give me a record deal, and then I will have the money to fly out and have that beer with you!!! YAY!!!
One day at a time though....~;)
Re:
Date: 2003-01-08 09:02 am (UTC)good luck anyway!
ps. may i suggest the lyric "I'm a sad old hag with a face full of botox" as a starting place - she should be able to identify with that...!

Date: 2003-01-08 05:56 am (UTC)Sorry I am too far and too poorly equipped to help on the recording. However, given the magnitude of this contract, and since you will also have others on the way. I think an investment such as this would be pretty minor - $500 to $900 for most everything you would need to do it on your own from here out. Hopefully an advance from Cher is an option.
Hopefully some or all of what I have here is useful to you. Half of this may be things you already have or have tried.
quick start at recording equipment based on optimal value and ease on your pockets -

I'm not going to be able to afford it - So I figured I might share the link.
If you already have a good synth the above combo is not needed - go for this instead:

If you need a microphone:

If you need a good set of monitors for cheap:

For software (if you do not have these already): Cakewalk has several trial versions applications for download. I would also check on Cubase VST, Protools, and Logic. All three are great applications for music creation, they all work on pretty much the same principle - so whatever one offers the best trial would be the way to go. If your trial is running out before the song is complete - flatten and export your waves, save your Midi tracks and put it together in the next application.
OMG

Re: OMG
Date: 2003-01-08 02:57 pm (UTC)I am down to needing the condenser mic and the DSP series soundcard... though I would really like to get me a kurzweil keyboard, an electric cello, and an electric violin eventually.
I hocked my Mic a year ago, never got it back, and have regretted it seriously. On my last music equipment buying binge - I ran out of cash due to a few emergencies just before picking up the mic. So I am still stuck doing instrumentals, and hoping I get back to them eventually before they are too cold to lay down the vocals.
But, I figured all the research should benefit someone.
If you end up buying music software I would really recommend cubase VST if you are on a PC, and Logic if you are on a mac. You can save about $1000 on logic by going here:
http://www.audiomidi.com/common/cfm/product.cfm?Product_ID=2001
See how it says show the installer disk, installation guide from a competing product? Well, if you cannot find any more creative way of doing this - buy the cheapy one I think either Master Tracks Pro Voyetra Digital Orchestrator Pro are around $30 to $100. You could return them (possibly - depending on the store), or sell the unwanted suite on ebay.
It is entirely possible that Cubase or Cakewalk have competitive crossgrades available also. It is always good to check.
