"Take me, my dear," said Shaggy Man in a sympathetic tone, thinking she meant "beau" instead of "bow."
"I don't want you!" cried Polychrome, stamping her foot imperiously; "I want my Rainbow."
"Oh; that's different," said Shaggy. "But try to forget it. When I was young I used to cry for the Rainbow myself, but I couldn't have it. Looks as if you can't have it, either; so please don't cry."
Polychrome looked at him reproachfully. "I don't like you," she said.
I had my students reading from the Freedom Writers' Book and it was journal entry about a young boy killed in gang violence. I told everyone they would have to read a paragraph as we were going along. Usually they hate this - they all did it and there was this profound silence in the room. It was so great! I love when they "get" it! It makes me feel good!

Tell me something that inspires you. Unusual people/objects/places Quiet summer nights in the country Bustling summer nights in the city Desire to be somewhere better than I am Well-written lyrics Individuality Flavor-pairings Neon lights The NYC subway (how can it not?) A long drive with no set destination (in this respect, road trips as well)
What gives you the most joy? Writing Experimenting with food Cooking for my friends Late night talks that go on until the wee-to-mid hours of the morning Running Dancing Daydreaming Music (creating, listening to, ect.)
Today it was standing outside of Lakeside in the blowing wind for a moment to watch the waves crash over the breakers. I love to watch Lake Erie when the weather is crazy! It's beautiful in a humbling/inspiring sort of way to remember how beautiful the world around me is...
"Inspiring" and "joy" are two different things to me.
What brings me the most joy is time spent with my dear loved ones/ friends/ family (who with exception of mom and spouse are "friends that are family" not blood or legal family)...When we are all getting along and having fun that is :)...also drinking, good guitar music, making shit, kitties and little rodents being all cute, nifty dolls and vinyl/ wooden toys, cool looking old building.
What inspires me is someone who perseveres in something that looks difficult/ different/ a long shot/ lost cause/ out of character, and through their efforts succeeds to an unusual degree or in an unusual way. Like the founder of Wal Mart who kept driving around in a jeep (his descendents fux0red up his concept). Or the guy I know on death row who's borderline retarded but along with other guys there, teaches a class on capital defense law to the new guys and helps put out a newsletter. Or the guy who was like 40 years old but still managed to get hired for a major league baseball team. Or Bob Pollard who chucked an elementary school teaching career to become an indie rock band leader at 35. That sort of thing.

Building things 9. NPR (see 3) 10.Music (all of it.. any of it) 11.Building relationships.. something I haven't been doing enough of lately 12. Ricola cough drops, now that I don't smoke anymore
currently what inspires me and what gives me the most joy seem to be very similar so I shall just ramble.
music. music thru my earbuds, straight into my veins or surrounding me as I drive along the Merritt as the sun creeps through the ceiling of trees. As I drive across the Tappan Zee bridge and look to see the skyline of my favorite city and knowing that I did all of this, I created this life. I did this because I have AMAZING, supportive, encouraging, loving friends, that are so talented and inspire me in many facets, and bring me such joy. Some of these friends, are in my earbuds and I walk into a hospital that has seen more of my tears than most places I know, and these voices get me through and put a spring in my step and I feel as I bounce back everytime I fall, that with these thoughts, these songs, lyrics, voices, love, friendship, supprt, that I truly can do anything. and that brings me more joy than I've ever known.
Of course I would be a bad auntie if I did not mention two blond brainy beauties that bring equal parts joy & inspiration as I watch them grow into such exquisite creatures.
There truly is not enough room in all 4 chambers of my heart for all that I have in my life.
