fruity ramblings
Oct. 2nd, 2002 06:58 pmA few years back I met a few people in some chat rooms and we discussed what kinds of fruits we'd be if we were, well, fruits.
Now, this wasn't a new subject for me. Being the Dawn that I am, I ask silly questions, and this particular one I think started when I was about 16. I had the idea that this question, the "If you were a fruit, what would you be and why" one, would tell me something essential about a person.
Needless to say, most guys were bananas (seriously!). A few people were witty, answering with "Rupaul," or "A Rotten Apple - no explanation is required, thank you."
Somewhere in my stored shtuff, there's a notebook with several hundred answers from over the years. Yeah, I know - I have always been easily entertained. Not such a bad quality, if you ask me!
But these guys on-line and I, we were discussing this, and I told them I would be a plum because most people see it as a *dark* thing, but when they bite into it, they often find an assortment of deep, luscious, sometimes even vibrant array of colors and flavors within. The flavor can range from sweet to bitter, it just depends on when they decide to eat it. And then inside, there is a pit that, when worked at long enough, will split in half and reward a person with a soft, sweet meaty substance unlike any other.
Of course, this prompted favorite fruit conversations, and the one fellow, whose name I believe was Danny, said his happened to be a plum. I told him he was messing with me, but he assured me that he spoke the truth, and we both agreed that the best time to eat a plum is when it is all but black on the outside, and deep violet inside. Sweet, juicy...blissful!
Why am I talking about this, you ask?
*un-sticks plum-juice covered fingers from the keyboard*
So, if YOU *wigglz fingers* were a fruit, what would you be and why?

Re: Kiwi
Then again, your writing usually is...~;)
I don't recall ever having this conversation with you, no, but I am starting to see a pattern of me being inibriated and then asking this question. I'll have to think carefully about whether or not I was stoned the first time I asked this - it wouldn't surprise me.

Date: 2002-10-02 05:42 pm (UTC)I like those fruits the most. They look like the male testes and taste sweeter than honey.
Oh yeah???
ROFL!!!
WTF are those anyway??? Can you show me a pic?
Re: Oh yeah???
Date: 2002-10-03 05:57 am (UTC)Popular use:
Pericarp (peel) which is used as medicine is separated from the edible portion and is sliced into desired sizes immediately after the fruit is opened. The pericarp pieces are strung and dried (air-drying, sun-drying, and "tapahan" method where the pericarp is dried by smoking) immediately to avoid fungi infestation. Sun-dried pericarp yield the highest tannin concentration of 5.5%.
Cures:
Abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Lychee (again, I couldn't spell this one either, because I've seen so many different variations from hill billy asians in chinatown Toronto, ON)
And one I didn't include, that looks like the same thing Rambutan (aka the 'hairy cherry')

HOWEVER...
I used to answer with this as well...it is the fruit of the underworld, Hades, the reason Persephone was cast to darkness in winter.
Just some myth for ya!
Thanks for the answer.

I would be this because:
1. while it seemingly may appear to look very similar to other citris fruit it's really a pleasant mixture of several very different things that blends together to create something unique. While not being completely original it has made aspects of other fruit it's own while still maintaining it's individuality. As with all things some tangelo's are better than others all depending on the season in which you get them. Yes, Tangelos may look ordinary but just you wait till you get a bite....it's quite possible you will never be the same!
