I just opened mail from Obl'eness (however you spell it) hospital in Athens. It seems that the insurance OU REQUIRES its students to obtain if they are uninsured otherwise did not cover a single penny of the ultrasound I got back in June, and I now owe them something around $700.

I have to laugh, because really, I might just cry.

yes, it could be worse.
Always, it could be worse.
But damn...

seriously considering some alternate plans right now, as everything I planned thus far feels utterly impossible.

A lot of the hospitals down that way will write off certain charges for students/the poor. Doctor's Hospital Nelsonville wrote off my ER visit fees, but I still had to pay for my X-ray and actual ER doc bill. Ultrasounds might not be elegible for a write off, but it's definitely worth looking into.

check w/ their finance/business office. granted metro is a county hospital so its different, but I imagine the hospital you went to, if it is associated w/ a college, it should ahve some sort of rating system.

sorry sweetie!!!!!

do you have credit cards?
can you get one and just charge it? if you can get one with a low interest rate, you can just put that on it, and make payments..$700 isnt nothing, but its not something that would kill you to charge...imo

Medical stuff sucks. *With* insurance (that costs us about $150/mo in premiums) we still have over $500 in current medical bills. Without insurance it would have been thousands. And even tho we're healthy, we both have chronic things and prescriptions so we have to use COBRA benefits and thus start paying $700 per month for health insurance from September until whenever I have it again through work so we don't get hit with the whole pre-existing conditions thing. So yah, I can definitely empathize on this thing.

I think you can set something up through the school's bursar's office to make payments, if worse comes to worst.

I second Junior's motion.

And that really does suck, in a lengthy, extravagant, and fairly rude way. I really hope you can figure something out. But don't lose hope! Hugs and cookies await!

....Okay, the cookies will be awaiting. They have yet to exist in a form separate from their constituent parts, which I have yet to purchase, largely. But they will!
