Er - yah. I used to have a septum ring just like you and I had a retainer and I have chronic sinusitis and one day i was sniffling and - oops - there went the retainer up my nose where I coughed/choked for a second until it repositioned itself in my throat and by reflex I swallowed it. So... that's why I don't have a nose ring anymore.
