almost did at the dining hall.
heh.

yeah, I am really, really angsty.

I had been waiting ten minutes for my sub, paying very close attention to all the boys and girls who slid their cards through the register. When they finally called out, "Turkey sub," I reached forward to grab it, as it was mine.

I heard this, "uh, *whine* that's mine!"

I turned to look at the girl, glared at her dead in the eyes, and said, "Um, no, it's mine actually."

She said, "Bullshit! I've been standing here for like, five minutes already."

I said, "I know, I watched you, along with your two friends, "whom I glanced over at, "swipe your cards through about five minutes ago, which was five minutes after I had swiped mine. It's mine, I assure you."

Her mouth dropped, as if I had said something despicable, and I smiled a smarmy smile, and walked back to my cell.

OK, so it wasn't a fight, but damn I would have loved more of a confrontation.
Then again, I am not much for confrontations. I like word-battles far more.

maybe it was just the Missile Command hoodie...~;D

my brain is so not right right now. heh.

BUT, so...I came across this peculiar picture roaming through yahoo...

...and found this article, and wanted to know how some of you feel about contraception and why. Yes, I am serious. I have my opinions, but they are entirely subjective, with the exception of a few things I have read studies on.

Study gives male contraceptive a shot

Fri Nov 12, 6:23 AM ET
By Liz Szabo, USA TODAY

Scientists trying to develop a birth-control pill for men have long been thwarted by two major obstacles: the wiliness of sperm and the unwillingness of women to trust their partners with such a weighty responsibility.

While few biologists feel qualified to provide relationship counseling, one group of researchers says the group may be a step closer to solving the technical problems of male contraception.

In a study published today in Science, researchers say they have developed a reversible, immunocontraceptive injection that works 78% of the time - at least in monkeys. Scientists have yet to prove whether men are similar enough to monkeys for the shot to work for them, too.

Although other scientists have experimented with hormones, these researchers injected subjects with a vaccine that targets a protein, called Eppin, that coats the surface of sperm. Seven out of nine animals developed an immune response, indicating that the vaccine was working, says M.G. O'Rand, a professor of cell and developmental biology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. None fathered babies while taking the shots.

The study provides the "first clear evidence" in primates that antibodies to sperm-coating proteins can prevent conception, says John Herr, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Research in Contraceptive and Reproductive Health.

But the vaccine is far from perfect, O'Rand says. Two of the seven monkeys - or 29% - remained infertile after the shots stopped.

Susan Benoff, former president of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology, says the vaccine isn't yet reliable enough to be used in humans. Doctors also need to better understand how the vaccines work.

But the greatest challenges to developing male contraception could be psychological, Benoff says. While some men might take a pill, most of her male patients aren't crazy about needles. Many men prefer condoms, which are inexpensive, widely available and help prevent sexually transmitted infections.

"It's obviously not going to be used by a gentleman who's interested in a one-night stand," Benoff says.

Yet it may be harder to win over women, many of whom are used to taking responsibility for preventing pregnancy, she says.

"If you are the woman," Benoff says, "you are the one who's going to be pushing out the 8-pound bowling ball, so you really have to trust that he's going to do what he says he's going to do."

Ok, tell me how ya really feel...~;)

I'm all for contraception. Humans are overpopulating the planet with disasterous consequences. People should be able to have children only by deliberate choice, and any technology that enables this is good. I'd definitely prefer this to having to use condoms with a long-term partner, if it were proven reliable, and there weren't any dangerous side-effects, as condoms taste lousy and it just doesn't feel as good. I'd also prefer it to getting a vasectomy, as surgery is kindof scary and not easily reversed.

I once dated a girl, who, despite my telling her otherwise, would ram her birth control pills up my peehole. Needless to say, it worked.

And yes, those hoodies have a secret smarm packet.

there is no way on this green planet i would trust him to take the BC. However, duel control would be cool.

I still would want to have a condom.
But the added assurance of the male contraception would probably be cheaper than DNA testing of an unplanned child.
"Gentlemen" don't have one night stands.

BAH. We don't need those right now. But, it would be nice in the future to have HIM take a BC form. I wanna see the side effects of that on men.

well...I use the fertility awareness method. I don't believe in messing with my body's natural cycles, in fact I'm adamantly against it. I've never been on, and will never be on, any pill, patch or shot. It's my body, it's my responsibility; not to mention it has made me less a stranger to my own body than most women, unfortunately, still are in this "modern" day and age.

I'm not terribly keen on the idea of tinkering with the body like that. For men or women. Not just for birth control. Sort of like when I recently mentioned not being keen on taking things when being sick, like fever reducers which block the body's natural way of fighting illness. Just my $.02.

I think its a really good idea for people to use contraceptives if they are adamant about having sex and are not ready to have children. I don't personally take them though because they made me feel so sick I couldn't handle them. I use fertility awareness and withdrawal. Its worked for me. The one time I was unsure, I went to Planned Parenthood and took the morning after pill.

I think its too bad that people in third world countries don't have access to birth control pills, although so many of them seem to be Catholic that they probably wouldn't use them anyway. But they're having kids and letting them live and die in squalor. In my opinion, that is cruel and inhumane.

A little longer rant then I ment it to be...

the thing that worries me about birth control is that some many women will just eat it up without really thinking about what it can do to their body and maybe not even caring. It's worth it right? Fair trade off for no babies. NO! Case in point. When I was 15 or so I got on Depo-Provera. That's the birth control shot you get once ever 3 months and more often then not it makes you period go away. Now here is the thing about Depo. Ultimately what it does is trick your body into thinking it's pregnant already so it wont release any eggs. You will gain weight, feel sick and have the raging hormones of a pregnant woman. Granted some cases are milder then others but all of these things happened to me while I was on depo and I damn near lost all my friends just from being such a crazy emotional bitch for what appeared to be little or no reason at all. I had suicidal thoughts and if you know me that's crazy. I'm high on freaking life and I alwayas have been. After I got off depo I spent some time researching the effects it had had on other women and discovered that there were women with stories even worse then my own. Women who were hospitalized from their hormones wreaking havoc on their body and their doctors not believing it could be from something so simple as there birth control. And I'll tell you right now Depo is not the only birth control that will make a woman nuts. I tried several after depo and I have finally come to find that the patch works best for me. Granted it doesn't always stick as well as the commercials claim but I don't feel like an emotional basket-case and it's great to just stick it and forget it for a week. Moral of the story is when you're on any kind of drug and you find your self crying because you can't find the tv remote don't just chalk it up to PMS. Listen to your body!

yeah, that actually happened to me with the pill - not depro. I have tried to take it many times and each time I become extremely depressed and basically become a completely different person. So much so that the boyfriend and I almost broke up (the whole reason for being on it in the first place!). When I would tell the doctors about the reaction they told me to stick with it and offered to prescribe anti-depressants (what! more pills?!?!?!), and most recently when I complained about these symptoms I was told by a nurse at the doctor's office , 'well, you just really are a freak aren't you!'. Nice, real nice, eh?
