the high in PHX AZ = 104, low 77...yay!
Jul. 4th, 2004 04:51 pmLuckily, fireworks aren't banned here, as they have been in several other states in the west.
Satan tried poking my eye out in the guise of a giant red wasp in the desert yesterday. Instead, I screeched, did a strange version of the watoosee, and landed with my right leg folded under my arse, thus spraining my ankle.
Meanwhile, The Vicious Red Ants (AKA children of Beelzebub) of the Apache Trail were scheming Gabe's demise, as he threatened to demolish them earlier at Canyon Lake, just east-ish (I think??) of the Superstition Mountains. They infiltrated Joerael and Shannon's car, attacked Gabe's left leg, got me when I was down and bit the inner part of my already sprained ankle (YAY! Someting to take my mind off the...pain?) and tried, to no avail, to attack Shannon as well. Oh, but she's a swift li'l cookie, and she swatted it off her flesh just before it was too late.
All the while, Ignazio the 'huahua (as I have come to know these beings) snoozed on Joerael's shoulders peacefully whilst he drove up the winding mountain roads to the most silent spot in the world, or in my experience so far.
The mountains and cacti and strangely colored algae and the Canyon Lake...beyond breathtaking. I began crying at one point, it was that painfully beautiful to look at.
Oh, and I saw vultures flying freely in the wild. Cleveland zoo has nothing on these creatures...just glorious!
My ankle is a li'l better today after ice and ibuprofen. Gots to warsh this desert heat off me bones now, and then an evening of BBQ'a, possibly a Pete (HAPPY BIRFENDAYEE!) and then back to Joerael and Shannon's for fireworks. Later, Icehouse Gallery and a proposed "pseudo-rave."
This 4th of July so kicks last year's arse...nothing against Rome, but yeah.
Hope everyone is having a fabulous and safe weekend!

Date: 2004-07-05 08:21 pm (UTC)that's why i like northeast ohio and any part of the country with similar weather. complain about our harsh winters all you like, but it's because of them we don't have the bug problem constantly warm or hot parts of the country have to deal with.
i love the four seasons, i truly do. i lived in sunny california for ten months, it felt like ten years.
most places are great to visit some are a blast and a half to visit. i could spend a month or two in hawaii, but i still would want to head back to good old cleveland, ohio.
