we were playing, but then the cat came in, and all hell broke loose.
The hamster, whose name I am certain my mind blocked out for a reason, bit me, hard, and being only six or five or something like that, my first reaction was to react strongly. He hit the wall across the room, and I was devastated to find him limp and lifeless.
I went sobbing to my mother with this furry thing in my hands, and she comforted me and assured me that we would give him a proper funeral the next day.
My parents, trying their best to be respectful to my pet, allowed me to place him in a box and then in the freezer -- I am not certain how I knew that bodies belonged in cold places once they were dead, but I knew it and insisted.
Several hours later, at dinner as a matter of fact, we all heard the noise...
scritch!scritch!scritch!
As you might have guessed, he was still alive, but later died of hypothermia.
and I wonder why I can't sleep at night...surely, it must be residual childhood guilt!~;P
A friend of mine had a pet lizard that died. Not sure the type. He wrapped it up in preparation for burial (at least I assume that was his intention). The wrapped up body of the little dead lizard stayed with him for nearly ten years, including surviving (if that's the right word) through two moves.
I believe his wife made him finally bury it, but I could be wrong.
1. How many hours is it supposed to last? I often find anything I use over-the-counter leaves me incredibly groggy, mostly because it is meant to work for eight hours and well, I am never allowed to sleep that long, regardless of insomnia.
2.zygomorphous.
3. floccinaucinihilipilification (yes, it's a real word~8).
&
(for kicks)
4. selenophobia
If you can tell me the meanings to all three, I owe you a hot chocolate.~8)
Melatonin is not a knock you out type of sleep aid, it is non-narcotic and non habit forming.
It is an herbal formula that helps regulate the light/darkenss triggered sleep hormone.
I am the type of person who - if I get more than one day off in a row, starts to revert to my late late night bedtime habits, staying up as late as 4 or 5am.
That becomes a problem after a couple days when suddenly I have to BE UP at 7am.
Lately what I have been doing on days like that, is around 10pm - I take one melatonin tablet, and turn off most of the lights in the house (light will keep you awake). By about 11:30 I feel pretty groggy and by midnight I am in bed. Don't take the pill too late, no later than say 8 hours before you plan to wake up.
Taking the pill for several days in a row helps establish a normal sleep pattern, so you don't need to keep taking it constantly.
You can skip the pill entirely if you don't have to get up early, or plan to stay up late.
It may take some experimentation to find the exact pill taking times/schedule that works best for you, but I highly recommend it.
You can find it pretty cheap ($5 for a bottle) at any drug or even grocery store.
Not recommended for people on medication for moderate to severe depression.
I agree. Melatonin is a wonderful thing. We've gotten it before to try to help Paul, but he never got into any pattern with it so it really didn't do much for him. The nice thing I found with it was not so much it helping me get to sleep, but it helped me to wake up the next morning (about 8 to 10 hours after taking it). Mostly only used it when my sleep schedule was messed up, but I've taken it every day for weeks, then stopped taking it with no side affects.
I know my mother in law had to stop taking it, however, because it mixed badly with something else she was taking.
It can definitely help with the sleeping... but DAMN does it give me weird dreams! I've had other friends report the same thing. Anyone know why this happens?
I really appreciated the invite. I've been a little slow in posting because I've had a million and one things to take care of right now... though with my dreams last night, I might take a shot at it today.
I only asked if you got the invite because I wanted to make sure you did and that you did not mind. I never meant to seem as though I were trying to prompt you into posting...I have gone months without posting, and it's my community! LOL

2 & 3: think of two other cool words...
