I am soo happy with myself! *bounce* I haven't felt this good in a long time. See, that was the reason I stated this whole diet business, because my self-esteem was beginning to drizzle away. NONE OF THAT, I say. I am the FABULISCIOUS DAWN DAWN! HA! Seriously, I haven't had self-esteem issues like I've had over the past six months since back when Chris and I broke up seven years ago. Going back to that state would be like committing suicide, and I am *soo* not dead yet!

Other good news, I finally have a new place for MP3's (since MP3.com shut down). It's the New Music Network (NMN), which is *gasp!* run by Clear Monopoly Worldwide~;P But hey, I couldn't figure out anywhere else to go for now. I started to go elsewhere, but it required technical crap that I am just not savvy to. NMN was easier, and although it has its annoyances...several of them...it is free, and allows me a place to send prospective collaborators to hear my voice. If you're at all interested, go here.

That is another goal for the year, to record some new demos. I mean, I have no angst with the Lestat demo, but the music is not representative of what I am into at all, nor of what I am capable of these days. About the closest I come to opera is the Payle demo, "Reparation," but I only sing background vox on that. So yeah, that's the plan...make some new demos, both contemporary (so to speak) and some opera shtuff.

BTW...wonders never cease...I am wearing a bright lime-green sweater today. It's AWESOME! I bought it at Lane Bryant last night, along with some other long-overdue/ needed items. Anyway, I LOVE it. I never wear bright colors, but I have always adored obnoxiously ugly greens and oranges (see bad '60's/ '70's furniture~;P) but just haven't had the guts to wear them. Anyho'...I look yummy.~8)

OMG...[livejournal.com profile] krylon64 FINALLY made a post...*stares blankly into oblivion*

Oh...heh *cough* sorry.

heh, well, it's completely self-initiated, with some borrowed ideas from all about the diet world. First and foremost I have been avoiding big bad carbs like white breads of all sorts, potatoes, rice, etc. I do eat wheat shtuff, however, as well as oatmeal and wrap tortillas. It's amazing how much less I crave the "bad" carbs now too. I am not nearly as hungry as I use to be.

I have also been reading every food label for not only calories, but carbs, sodium, serving size, etc. It's amazing how much we overfeed ourselves based on the restaurant idea of a serving. Most of the time something is served in half-cup servings if not smaller.

Also, I have increased my fruit/ veggie intake to 5-7 servings a day, which is up from maybe one or two.

For convenience, I have taken a liking to The Zone bars. They taste like candybars, but have a good amount of protein and have kept me from starving on particularly rushed days. Also, the Subway veggie wraps are OUTSTANDING and really low-fat if you keep away from the cheese and meat, and go with vinegar and oil. This is going to become a staple, I think. We got the groceries for Jawndomay to make them at home, so that may save some cash as well.

Oh! As for how many calories, etc. I figure a meal shouldn't go over 200-250 calories, 300 max (and then I cut back later in the day). I haven't gone over 1000 calories a day (it's tedious and annoying to pay attention to, but it's working!) and I do not consume anything after 8PM. I try to have two snacks a day - one between breakfast and lunch (usually a piece of fruit) and one between lunch and dinner (like 1oz. of nuts...high protein snacks keep you rolling in the late afternoon!) I always eat breakfast, and drink an insane amount of water -- well, I have yet to reach the 64 oz. a day mark, but considering the tea and coffee I drink as well, I do not think I am dehydrated.

I won't lie, I have cheated a little, but I figure if I completely deprive myself I am bound to fail. I am allowing myself 1 "bad meal" a week, and one alcoholic beverage a week as well (this is going to help me with money too heh).

It's a lot of work, but I reeeeally want this, and I was ready to start. I am going to try to start an exercise regimen this week *gasp!* so we'll see how that goes.

Lemme know if I answered your question well enough. It's all self-instituted, like I said, and I am by no means a dietician, but it's working and I don't feel deprived or hungry. I did the first few days, but it passes once all the *junk* is out of your system.~8)

i've thought about that low carb thing. i'm such a sucker for bread, you wouldn't believe! your suggestions sound sane, so i'll give them a try...slowing into them. i'll probebly eat bigger portions since im working out. you'll find that you'll need more caleries after the first week or so of exersising.
i've been going to the gym for a year now and yes i've become more fit than ever. still i was expecting to loose some weight. maybe diet modification will get that going.
thanks

One thing you need to keep in mind is that muscle weighs more than most people expect it to, so it's more a matter of losing Body Mass Index points (BMI) than actual pounds. Look up a site that can give that to you...it usually wants your weight, height, and some measurements (waste, hips -- get a tape measure!)

I haven't had such a good week this week with the exercising. Woke up from so many poopy dreams I didn't want to go anywhere, get out of bad, etc. Ohio has been really cloudy so I am certain it's a combination of Seasonal Affective Disorder and PMS. LOL Oh well...I have a health club pass for this weekend, and then my actual three-month one should come in the mail soon. I hope so...I need someone to help me get started with this exercise business.

As for the carbs, I haven't cut them out entirely, just the "white" carbs (white bread, potatoes, etc) I still eat fruit and veggies, wheat bread (limited, but I still do), and wrap-type toritillas. I have really liked the foods, how much more tasty they are (I had forgotten how good fresh veggies are...pathetic, huh?). I think it's a matter of portions, calories, and just paying attention to what your body is saying. I have actually stopped eating before clearing my plate a couple times now, something I never used to do. I have always eaten fast, so I have slowed down considerably and that helps me recognize when I am full.

blah, I am gonna stop now. I can go on and on about all this. ~8) It's just nice to talk about it is all.

it's been a few days of cutting out most carbs. i had a low slump in my mood. the diet may or maynot be the cause. i'd be interesting to talk with a dietition about food and emotional stability (thing i'm lacking these past months). i do agree that we need to take more time for food, the preparation of fresh, and eating. i know i tend to eat quick foods during the day cause i'm preocuppied.

talk about it anytime. i'm interested in how it works for you. i'm doing bout the same thing but i find i need fruitjuice in the afternoon to wake myself up. low blood sugar? where's my nurse?
