OK, so I don't usually complain about these sorts of things, but this...THIS just urks the shite outta me.


Woke to the news, as per most mornings. OUr dear mayor, Jane Campbell, is laying off some absurd amount of emergency workers on the 21st, despite their many efforst to fight her decision. Apparently, our city has a bad deficit, blah blah blah.

In other news, the Indian's will be spending SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS on a new billboard for next year's season.

On one hand, it looks insane. On another it *is* insane. But then, the Indians also bring in a *lot* more money to the city than that every year, so it's seen as an investment to make people want to spend more money on the games and such.

So it's not *entirely* insane - while it is a cost, you have to keep the plebels happy so they continue to buy tickets and insanely costly hot dogs, countering the deficit.

In the context of the kind of money that rolls around in the entertainment business they call baseball, $7M is peanuts.

I understand that they bring in money, and appreciate the fact that they do. But you know what? Firefighters and police officers shouldn't be laid off (we're talking 300+, not a small bit) in hopes of saving money, all the while they are willing to spend this ridiculous amount on a fucking board? The old one isn't broken!

I'm not arguing *that* part, at all - it's appalling on the face of it to save money by reducing citizen safety, for starters ... I can think of more issues I have with that approach.

I'm wondering though, these are different budgets; how would the city grab the money from the Indians without people going apeshit? (Yeah, people would over *that*, much more than they will over 300+ emergency workers being let go ... which shows you how fucked people's perceptions are ...)

It would just suck for them if the new sign were to burn down from a lack of firemen, or get stolen or defaced from a lack of police.

Even worse is that I was just reading how Cleveland was owed $850,000 for the past three years from SBC and never bothered to collect. Instead they decided to lay people off.

Yeah, and all the companies and cities that are doing it now, right in the middle of the holidays, because of all the financial end-of-year crap.

And yeah, I would have to think that criminals would see that as a special Christmas present too.

I have been following Cambell ever since she took office, basically so I could show my many friends who believed Mike White was a fuck up exactly how bad it could be. Early on, I actually had to debate a bit on her lack of ability, now, all 4 of them tell me they would love to have White back. These guys who hated White now agree that she is full of shit saying that the issues were all his fault.
Jane Cambell is a fucking moron, and now that it is all coming out, I hope someone is smart enough to decide to go for a recall on her ass. Then again, that probably isn't the answer, but something needs to be done.
Plus, I hope someday someone questions her as to why she is our mayor, and she supposedly lives in Cleveland (which is one of the requirements for the job), but her kids go to Shaker Schools?
And hell, that is just the start of her bullshit. I could probably create a list of 50 things wrong with this woman just from things heard/seen on the news. It makes me shudder to think of what goes on that the people can't find out.
