OK, so that was a little harder than I thought it would be. Damn favoritism! LOL I based it more on how my musical tastes formulated than anything...some of this music was simply where I came from, not necessarily what I would listen to right this instant. It's still shtuff I would not live without, lest I change my personal history. Oh well...leave it to me to break the rules, right?

I'm foggy on the concept of "couldn't live without". Does this mean considering the impact that a particular band has on culture? Or is it a personal thing? Because if it's the former, I couldn't ignore the fact that while the Sex Pistols will never be as talented or genius as Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd will never be as important as the Sex Pistols.

Doing this list either way would be incredibly hard to do for me, since my personal interest in these bands sometimes reflects how I think of their place in musical culture. Add the fact that it's hard for me to discern if I like one band better than another, as each artist ranks on a scale completely independent of anyone else.

I think the main concept was to do this on a *personal* level. I, like you, had many conflicts, however, for many of the same reasons. Each of these bands has had some impact on my life to some degree or another, which is why I couldn't live without any of them lest I change my personal history. Then again, I don't care for all of them now.

Oh well...something to do.

ya know half of these don't seem essencial to me. i'll happily dump fleetwood mac, they just annoy me. i added the clash cause that was the first punk band i listened to.
