Impairments and insanity
Jul. 3rd, 2003 11:56 amThank you to everyone who has been writing to me, either via e-mails or through LJ. It helps with my homesickness tremendously. I have a ton of postcards to send, but I am having a hard time making it to the post office for stamps because my schedule is so intense here.
Things are getting better. My nerves have settled more into the Roman groove, or something. At any rate, I have found a few nice people to hang out with and practice with, and my roommate, Melissa, is just incredibly reassuring. I hope I give it back as much as I take.
One of my major setbacks here is that I do not know IPA. I was never even told about it until right before I left the states, so as I study here I find myself rather handicapped by this. Luckily, my voice instructor, who is just amazing, has been helping me tremendously with my Lakma duet. The hardest parts are simply turning off what my brain has already learned and relearning the parts of the song I already thought I knew, and then remaining open to the parts I have yet to learn.
The world is a wall of sound and experiences...I am still just trying to take it all in and leave room for anything else. It is hard, but tonight will give us all a nice break. Several of us are going downtown to see La Boheme tonight. Of course, one of my less-than-friendly choir members AKA the other girl singing the Lakme duet with me, signed us up for voice coachings at around 6:30 (for her) and 6:45 (for me), so I most likely won't eat dinner before going out. All the more reason to stuff myself at lunch, where it's free! 8D
The American in me dreams of convenience, of Lincoln Park Pub and Lava Lounge just across the street...:::drool:::
Then again, there are sooo many beautiful people here, moreso outside the hotel, that I am in eye-candyland. Everything is art here, from the people to the clothing to the flowers and fountains...just stunning!
Anyway, I don't think I will be online very much from here on. It is very expensive, so I hope everyone is doing well. I miss everyone LOTS (thanks, btw, to![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
