thedarksiren2: (SQUID!)
After much deliberation, I decided to make Jay's birthday cake myself last Saturday. It was a lemon cake which I poked holes in and, once it cooled, poured strawberry jello into it, and then placed it in the fridge for four hours to set.

I learned how to make these cakes while working at Howe House. They were called "poke cakes" in the group homes, so that is what I called them.

However, there has been a rather silly debate about what the name of the cake actually is. It seems that [livejournal.com profile] b4tjberry and [livejournal.com profile] tiktiktok believe it is simply called a "jello cake."

[livejournal.com profile] wraptboy agrees with me.
[livejournal.com profile] bindrune...well, I think she just likes eating it, but she's welcome to vote!~;)

And thus, a poll for a the masses:

[Poll #517266]

So, Ms. Rosalyn English finally left a message for me. Seems she is not in charge of hiring subs for the CCBMRDD, but she mentioned Yvonne Tepfenhart (it took three listens and [livejournal.com profile] bindrune's ears to finally get the spelling of that name!!!) is, and that I could contact her.

She then said I should simply go to their website, fill out an application, and bring it in to them. Of course, this would require a printer that works...:::grumbles:::

I am also disheartened to read that their Habilitation Specialist positions require a BA. For the record, I worked as an Habilitation Specialist for almost ten years between Hattie-Larlham and Howe House, the last several of which I was also an Habilitation supervisor and one of the company's main trainers, and none of it ever required a degree.

Oh, I could begin my rant now, but I'll save you all the gory details.

I think I am going to fill out an application anyway, and see what comes of it all. My inner-sensibilities are telling me "not much," which is why tomorrow I shall spend the first part of my day reading through the job listings in the Plain Dealer.

In other news, I got into the Blossom Choir.
I am happy about this, except for the fact that now, without certainty of a day job, I am not sure I'll be able to make the rehearsals. ~8(

I wish I could just sing all summer, make money at that instead of all worrying about all this other crap.

*sigh*

Oh well...

BTW, if you haven't participated in the Cake Poll, please do so, and entertain me. Invite friends, even...the more the merrier, right???

Speaking of which, tonight is Taco Tuesday at the Lincoln park Pub in Tremont. Jawndomay inhabitants, and possibly the furniture, shall be there around 5:30 to scarf some tacos. Come, join us. You know you want to.
